In a sign of how tone-deaf some of the hosts on MSNBC are, Ari Melber implied that Elon Musk could use Twitter to silence politicians after the news broke that he had purchased the social media platform.
A distressed-looking Melber said in a clip shared by the Daily Wire’s Mary Margaret Olohan, “If you own all of Twitter, or Facebook, or what have you, you don’t have to explain yourself.”
“You don’t even have to be transparent. You could secretly ban one party’s candidate, or all of its candidates, all of its nominees,” Melber continued.
Melber then pointed out, “Or you could just secretly turn down the reach of their stuff and turn up the reach of something else and the rest of us might not even find out about it until after the election.”
“Elon Musk says this is all to help people because he is just a free speech, philosophically clear open-minded, helper,” Melber stressed.
Fox News’ Kayleigh McEnany quote tweeted Olohan and quipped that what Melber said, “Sounds familiar…”

In replies to her tweet, Olohan had shared examples of Twitter essentially doing just what Melber described in the past.
Olohan shared an October Daily Caller article reporting on how the New York Post had been locked out of their Twitter account for 7 days at that point over the Hunter Biden laptop story and asked, “Remember this?”
In another reply, Olohan quote tweeted another October 2020 tweet from NRSC’s Mike Hahn, who at the time explained that “Twitter has suspended @TeamTrump for posting a video calling Joe Biden a liar who has been ripping off our country for years, as it relates to the @nypost article. 19 days out from the election.”
Hahn shared a screenshot of the account and showed that it had been locked as Olohan said in the tweet, “Throooowback.”
Olohan also shared other examples including when then-White House press secretary McEnany’s account was shared in October 2020 as well for trying to amplify the Hunter Biden laptop news.
