Kevin McCarthy Denied Again in 13th Round of House Speaker Voting Despite Gaining One More Vote as Rep Andy Harris Flips

U.S. House Rep Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was denied again in the 13th round of House Speaker voting despite gaining one more vote as U.S. House Rep Andy Harris (R-MD) flipped.

In the round of voting, no other GOP options for Speaker were nominated, but the six remaining holdouts all voted for U.S. House Rep Jim Jordan (R-OH).

U.S. House Rep Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) was nominated by the Democrats and his total remained the same as the previous twelve rounds.

As we previously reported, thirteen GOP reps switched their votes from opposing nominations to McCarthy in the previous round: U.S. House Rep Paul Gosar (R-AZ), U.S. House Rep Dan Bishop (R-NC), U.S. House Rep Michael Cloud (R-TX), U.S. House Rep Andrew Clyde (R-GA), U.S. House Rep Byron Donalds (R-FL), U.S. House Rep Mary Miller (R-IL), U.S. House Rep Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), Ralph Norman (R-SC), U.S. House Rep Scott Perry (R-PA), U.S. House Rep Chip Roy (R-TX), U.S. House Rep Keith Self (R-TX), U.S. House Rep Andrew Ogles (R-TN) and U.S. House Rep Josh Brecheen (R-OK).

U.S. House Rep Victoria Spartz (R-IN) switched her vote from “present” back to McCarthy, who she had voted for in the first three rounds.

U.S. House Rep Matt Gaetz (R-FL), U.S. House Rep Lauren Boebert (R-CO), U.S. House Rep Eli Crane (R-AZ), U.S. House Rep Andy Biggs (R-AZ), U.S. House Rep Bob Good (R-VA), and U.S. House Rep Matt Rosendale (R-MT) were the members who voted for Jordan.

Gaetz (R-FL) nominated Jordan for Speaker last round and U.S. House Rep Lauren Boebert (R-CO) nominated U.S. House Rep Kevin Hern (R-OK).

One Twitter user said of the result, “#Speakerofthehousevote the 13th round has to be the most humiliating for McCarthy.”

“They didn’t run an opponent and he still didn’t win. Wow. I guess the 6 Never McCarthy’s are just that. Never,” she insisted.
