After becoming the House Speaker, Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) “especially” thanked former President and 2024 GOP Presidential candidate Donald Trump and said that no one “should doubt his influence.”
Trump shared a clip of McCarthy’s praise in a Truth Social post and told him, “Thank you Kevin. It was my great honor!”
In the clip, McCarthy began, “I do want to especially thank President Trump. I don’t think anyone should doubt his influence.”
“He was with me from the beginning… he was all-in. He would call me and he would call others. He really was, I was just talking to him tonight, helping to get those final votes,” McCarthy explained.
McCarthy continued, “What he’s really saying for the party and the country, that we have to come together. We have to focus on the economy, we have to focus to make our border secure.”
“We have so much work to do and he was a great influence to make that all happen. So thank you, President Trump,” McCarthy reiterated.
In a separate Truth Social post today, Trump said, “The Republican Party really came together last night. It was, in so many ways, a beautiful thing to see. HISTORIC!”
Many Republican voters are not happy with McCarthy being elected the Speaker and would have preferred Trump himself, but also many are happy to see the situation finally be resolved.
As we previously reported, McCarthy received 216 votes with six GOP members voting “present” in order for him to secure the victory over U.S. House Rep Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), who received 212 votes.
