On a House Natural Resources committee Zoom call earlier today U.S. House Rep Jared Huffman (D-CA) accused Rep Lauren Boebert (D-CO) of having a “gun fetish,” which prompted her to remind Democrats that they had taken an oath to uphold the Constitution.
Huffman said of Boebert’s Zoom background, which included various firearms, “If somebody wants to have a shrine to their gun fetish as a Zoom backdrop in their private life they can do that.”
“But this is our ‘hearing room,’ and at some point we will get past the COVID epidemic, and we’ll all start showing up in person, and our safety and our ability to conduct business civilly without feeling threatened is a relevant consideration, unfortunately,” Huffman insisted.
In a tweet, Huffman explained, “Republicans are trying to dismantle committee rules to prohibit firearms and dangerous weapons in the hearing room.”
“The fact that we have a member of the committee fetishizing weapons with her zoom background makes a clear case for why these rules are necessary,” Huffman added.

Boebert tweeted out a video clip of her response to Huffman by Gun Owners of America, who stated, “Pro-gun Rep. Lauren Boebert gave a POWERFUL speech defending the right to keep and bear arms when it was challenged by a committee chair. Gun owners are lucky to have Lauren in Congress!”
“It’s a sad day when elected Democrats violate their oath to support and defend the U.S. Constitution—which includes the Second Amendment,” Boebert opined.

Boebert then denounced Huffman in a separate tweet where she said, “While creeps like @RepHuffman sit and fantasize about my so-called gun fetish, I am busy fighting against his fetish for power and stripping Americans of their Constitutional rights.”
