Lauren Boebert Throws Down the Gauntlet, Pledges Not to Support Kevin McCarthy For House Speaker ‘As it Stands’

Update, 1:00PM ET: Boebert has voted for U.S. House Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) in the first round as the vote continues on.

U.S. House Rep Lauren Boebert (R-CO) today pledged that she would not support Kevin McCarthy for House Speaker “as it stands.”

The pledge from Boebert casts his ability to become the next Speaker of the House in serious doubt, as the momentum builds towards a showdown.

Boebert declared in a tweet, “As it stands, I will not be voting for Kevin McCarthy to be Speaker of the House.”

In a video clip that was shared by Boebert in the tweet, she said, “So now, here we are, being sworn at instead of sworn in and we could have had this solved months ago.”

It was reported that in a House conference meeting this morning, McCarthy insisted that he had earned the “Godd*mn” job of Speaker. Boebert’s words certainly back up that report.

“I have been working every day to unify the Republican party for the American people and yesterday we had a deal that was not a selfish deal in any way for Kevin McCarthy to give him the gavel on the first ballot and he eagerly dismissed us,” Boebert explained in the clip.

As we previously reported, a  handful of Republicans are claiming they are not planning to support McCarthy for House Speaker in a vote today.

U.S. House Reps Bob Good (R-VA), Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and Matt Gaetz (R-FL) are among the dissenters.

Many reports have questioned if McCarthy has been too cozy with Democrats, potentially “two-faced” on supporting former President Donald Trump, and are concerned that he won’t impeach President Joe Biden, among other concerns.

Many would rather see Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Steve Scalise (R-LA), or Jim Jordan (R-OH) as Speaker instead. Most Republican voters seem to be fans of Jordan, but he likely doesn’t want to run for speaker.
