CNN released a report today showing that support for impeachment and removal from office for President Trump is dropping below 50%. The piece put out by CNN cites “opposition narrowly outpacing support” for President Trump, highlighting a 46% in favor as of today. Real Clear Politics paints a similar picture, as you can see in the screenshot below. The image portrays a clear change in the support for impeaching and removing President Trump, after the House Democrats have laid out their best case in Congress, with the final hearings wrapping up today before an official vote.

In the image below, you can see where CNN reported a higher 50% support for impeachment and removal back in November of this year. In today’s piece, CNN reports:
A new CNN Poll of Polls finds opposition narrowly outpacing support for impeaching and removing President Donald Trump from office — 46% believe Trump should be impeached and removed from office, 49% don’t. This Poll of Polls includes national polling conducted between Dec. 4 and 15 by telephone and averages results among registered voters across the polls.
As the impeachment hearings move to the Senate, the Republicans will take control of the narrative, which could cause these polls to shift in even more of a favorable position for President Trump. Although it’s unlikely that the Senate would vote to remove President Trump for office, the shift in public sentiment could mark a failure of the Democrats and Nancy Pelosi to paint a clear picture that President Trump is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors for a phone call with the Ukrainian President on July 25th of this year. However, although that phone call is the reason for impeachment, Pelosi herself admitted that the impeachment process has been going on for over 2 years, in an off the cuff video recently.
Also, many Democrats throughout the impeachment hearings over the last few weeks have highlighted other things they think are wrong with President Trump’s way of running the country, adding fuel to the accusations by Republicans that they don’t really have a good reason to impeach President Trump other than that they just don’t like him. One good example of that would be Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) bringing up President Trump’s tweet about child environmental activist Greta Thunberg, having nothing to do with impeachment at all, at a recent hearing.
Many times in recent weeks President Trump has said he’s never seen the Republican party so united, this in spite of some efforts by Never Trumpers to try to sour his support. Not one Republican in the House has signaled support for impeachment in the impending vote thus far, although some Democrats, such as Rep. Jeff Van Drew (D-NJ) have bailed and said they aren’t supporting it, Van Drew actually bailing from the party itself in recent days.
