WholeFoods magazine named U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) person of the year. The senator put out a tweet Wednesday regarding being recognized as ‘the most influential person in the natural products industry for his work to legalize industrial hemp’.
This announcement made many on the left get upset with Whole Foods market. In response to McConnell’s tweet, people began to bash the grocer owned by Jeff Bezos’ Amazon, as well as question if it was a joke. Some also called for boycotts of the supermarket.

They were already an overpriced trash company that took health benefits from thousands of workers. This just ensures that I will never set foot in a @WholeFoods ever again.

Boycott Whole Foods! (I don’t know where the nearest one is located).

WholeFoods magazine has no affiliation with Whole Foods Market. This is clearly displayed in the description of the WholeFoods Twitter account. See a screenshot below of the WholeFood Magazine Twitter account:
Whole Foods Market is a subsidiary of Amazon, they are an American grocery store, labeling themselves as America’s Healthiest Grocery Store that was started in Austin Tx in the 1980s. The company has been replying to angry tweets of its consumers saying they will be giving up shopping at the store in light of Mitch McConnell’s tweet. In a tweet below they tell an angry customer that they are not affiliated with the magazine.
Hello. Whole Foods Market is not affiliated with this publication. @wholefoodsmag

According to the Washington Times, the article in WholeFoods Magazine calls McConnell a “hemp hero” praising his leadership in ending the “hemp prohibition” and acknowledges that some of its readers wouldn’t be happy with the choice, however “Mitch McConnell has done a tremendous amount to influence the natural-products industry in 2019, and what he has set in motion will continue to impact this industry for a long time to come”.
The WholeFoods magazine and Whole Foods market are unrelated, however, in the ‘cancel’ culture it doesn’t take real information to enrage people to the point of bashing a company or calling for a boycott it seems.
