Director of the FBI Christopher Wray testified Wednesday before the House Judiciary Committee. Many Republicans on the committee had some tough questions they wanted Director Wray to answer.
Wray’s responses to these direct questions have Leo Terrell, among others, calling for his resignation.
Terrell tweeted, “Resign Director!’ and shared a video in which U.S. House Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) confronted Wray about a troubling message Hunter Biden allegedly sent a foreign national.
Gaetz read aloud the text message and asked Wray, “Sounds like a shakedown doesn’t director?” Wray grimaced and replied, “I’m not gonna get into commenting on that.”
“You seem deeply uncurious about it, don’t you? Almost suspiciously uncurious,” Gaetz retorted. “Are you protecting the Bidens?” he asked.
Wray quickly replied, “Absolutely not. The FBI does not and has no interest in protecting anyone politically.”
Gaetz talked over Wray, “Well you won’t answer the question about whether or not that’s a shakedown and everybody knows why you won’t answer it, because to the millions of people who see this know it is. And your inability to acknowledge that is deeply revealing about you,” the clip ends.
Terrell also shared another video of Wray’s testimony and again tweeted, “Resign Director!”
In the video, U.S. House Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) asked, “It has been reported that more than forty personal agents or contractors were in the crowd on January 6th, is that number accurate?”
“Uh, I don’t know if that number is accurate,” Wray replied. Biggs cited that former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund has claimed the crowd on January 6th was filled with federal agents. Biggs then continued, “Are you aware of his assertion?”
“I am not,” Wray answered.
Biggs followed up with, “Would you agree with him that it was filled with federal agents on January 6th?” “I would really have to see more closely exactly what he said and get the full context to be able to evaluate it,” Wray replied.
“How many agents were actually or human sources were present at the Capitol complex or vicinity on January 6th?” Biggs asked.
Wray again did not answer the questions and instead appeared to convolute Biggs’s question.
Biggs then asked Wray not to distract from what was being asked. Biggs went on and clarified that he is asking about those who were there in an undercover capacity, not those responding to the “breach” as Wray insinuated.
Wray replied that he didn’t have an answer and said he wasn’t sure there were any undercover agents in the crowd. Biggs had a hard time swallowing Wray’s answer. Wray elaborated he didn’t want to say anything that would interfere with court filings.
The back and forth continued on and Wray shared he didn’t believe there were any undercover agents in the crowd on January 6th once again.
Biggs followed up asking if there were any FBI assets there that day. Wray refused to answer the question directly, instead, he offered to send Biggs documents as soon as they were no longer under seal to “better answer” the question.
Terrell tweeted once again in relation to Wray:
“Attention #ChristopherWray ! Pack your bags! President Trump is going to fire you on his first day in office!”
Much of Wray’s testimony appears to have Republicans going around in circles with the director. Many Americans feel that the DOJ and the FBI have been politically weaponized against Republicans. Wray’s testimony today before Congress only appears to add to that assertion.
