Civil rights attorney Leo Terrell sent out a barrage of tweets that addressed a now-deleted tweet made by Ben Crump and a possible defamation lawsuit.
Terrell started:
“Ben Crump: For playing the RACE CARD, You may face a defamation lawsuit.”
Terrell then shared a Fox News article about Crump deleting his vicious tweet that branded a pregnant White woman a racist. He added, “Ben Crump: You are guilty of playing the Race Card! The nurse has a slam dunk case against you for defamation!”
In response to the Author Ryan James Girdusky’s call to “Sue them all” Terrell tweeted, “Please sue race hustler Ben Crump for Defamation! Personally I am sick of his lies!”
Physician assistant Sarah Comrie is the woman in a now-viral video who got into a verbal altercation with a group of Black men over a bike rental. Comrie was only trying to rent a bike to get home after her 12-hour shift at the hospital.
She was accused of trying to steal the bike from the group of Black men. It was later revealed after the video went viral, and news organizations, as well as activists, tried to label her as a thief and a racist that she, in fact, had paid for the bike and provided the receipts.
Crump jumped in among the slander and tweeted, “This is unacceptable! A white woman was caught on camera attempting to STEAL a Citi Bike from a young Black man in NYC. She grossly tried to weaponize her tears to paint this man as a threat. This is EXACTLY the type of behavior that has endangered so many Black men in the past!” He also included the viral video in the tweet which he has deleted.
Comrie’s attorney Justin Marino shared on Fox News, “She’s been called a racist. She’s been called a thief. There are reasons defamation laws exist, and we plan to pursue that.” She was at the end of a 12 hour shift and only trying to get home. Comrie is also 6 months pregnant, her lawyer shared. Since the coverage of the video, Comrie has had to go into hiding.
Comrie hired the attorney after she was placed on leave when the video started to get coverage and she was being defamed in the media.
Some have compared her to Nick Sandmann:
Tariq Nasheed tweeted about the video, “The fact that she started fake crying for help as if she was in physical danger and she started fake crying, this gives the basis to suspect her of being a white supremacist. And I still stand by that suspicion”
Twitter user @monitoringbias responded, “Lawyer up, pal.”
The Twitter user then added, “Karen Bike Lady is the new Covington Kid[Nick Sandmann]. Her lawyer has announced that she plans on filing defamation lawsuits.”
This doesn’t appear to be close to over for Comrie, no apologies appear to have been made by any of the news organizations that reported on the viral video. Ben Crump has only deleted his tweet and made no apology to her. We will see what comes of the possible defamation lawsuits.
