A Subpoena issued by the January 6th Committee seeks the phone records of Kelli Ward, Arizona’s GOP Chairwoman.
The House panel is trying to gain the records in their investigation into the events of January 6th.
Wednesday Justice Kagan issued a temporary stay, which blocks the committee from enforcing their subpoena for Ward’s phone records.
Kagan is over emergency applications from the State of Arizona, now the whole Supreme Court will rule on the matter. The House committee has until Friday to respond to Ward’s request to block the subpoena.
Justice Clarence Thomas issued a similar stay in an application brought forth by Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC). Graham is also seeking to block a subpoena for his testimony in a Georgia Investigation into alleged 2020 election interference. As with Ward’s request, the court as a whole will decide how to proceed.
Kelli along with her husband Michael were alternate electors that were subpoenaed by the January 6th Committee. A total of 14 of 84 alternate electors were subpoenaed by the committee.
Ward and her husband are both doctors and have argued that disclosing their records would violate medical privacy laws. Ward has argued that the subpoena violates her right to freedom of association under the Constitution’s First Amendment.
The committee is seeking her record citing their association with bogus documents claiming President Donald Trump had won the 2020 election in the state of Arizona.
We will soon hear from the court what will come of the subpoena.
