It was recently reported that President Joe Biden’s DOJ is keeping up the previous admin’s effort to take over former President Donald Trump’s defense against a defamation lawsuit filed by writer E. Jean Carroll, an effort Biden criticized during the campaign.
Carroll leveled the accusations against Trump in her memoir published in 2019 and Trump denied the allegations, accusing her of lying to sell books.
The new filing is the latest development in the case since then-Attorney General William Barr came under fierce criticism for taking taking the unusual step of seeking to intervene in the lawsuit last year.
Opponents argued was one in a series of actions the department took under Barr that benefited Trump or his friends and a federal judge in October denied the Justice Department’s initial attempt to step in on Trump’s behalf, after which he appealed the decision to the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York, where the matter now stands.
Buzzfeed reporter Zoe Tillman said that the potential key phrase in the filing was “institutional interests” as they “respectfully” urged the district court’s decision to be reversed.
Liberals were upset by news, with many criticizing current Attorney General Merrick Garland for not unilaterally stepping in to reverse course.
Twitter user Art Martin said, “With each passing day, Garland is showing he is all about the DOJ as an ‘institution’ and not the public interest. He’s going to be a massive disappointment.”

Another Twitter user “mjk” who believes Trump and all of his supporters are criminals declared that, “Merrick Garland is wasting the DOJ’s resources with this nonsense, meanwhile Trump committed 2 campaign-finance felonies in 2016 and committed obstruction of justice while president and so far crickets from Garland’s DOJ on those crimes.”

Biden supporting Twitter user “Baz” exclaimed at the news, “Wow!” He then suggested what the media calls a conservative conspiracy theory and said, “At this rate, maybe Trump will be back in the WH by August.”
“Garland is just doing whatever Trump and Barr want,” he added.
Wow! At this rate, maybe Trump will be back in the WH by August. Garland is just doing whatever Trump and Barr want.
