Matt Gaetz Shows Grace, Forgives Mike Rogers on TV After ‘Animated Moment’ on House Floor

U.S. House Rep Matt Gaetz (R-FL) addressed the incident that occurred prior to the final vote for House Speaker during an appearance on “Fox News Live.”

As we previously reported, U.S. House Rep Mike Rogers (R-AL) had to be restrained after lunging at Gaetz in an incident that was caught on C-SPAN cameras.

“Of course in a late-night moment of high drama, people can have moments of frustration,” Gaetz said of the incident.

Ultimately, Gaetz said and shared in a tweet, “.@RepMikeRogersAL and I have a six-year productive, working relationship. We’re going to work together wonderfully going forward.”

“I don’t think there should be any punishment or reprisal just because he had an animated moment. He has my forgiveness,” Gaetz added.

U.S. House Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), however, has suggested that Rogers should face consequences for his actions.

“Mike Rogers lost his temper and was basically going to, you know, put his hands on Matt and it was actually Richard Hudson — grabbed Mike Rogers from behind and pulled him away,” Greene explained.

Greene then said that she believes, “So yeah, that was completely out of line and then I’m sure it’ll be dealt with.”

U.S. House Rep Tim Burchett (R-TN), however, responded to the incident by stating, “I’m honestly – I’m not going to be threatened by anybody, and if somebody puts their hands on me, I will drop them like a bag of dirt.”

Burchett, who is a former Knox County Mayor, emphasized, “I really will, man. That is not – I am not one to back down from a fight.”
