Matt Gaetz Vows to Have all the Jan. 6 Footage Released, ‘The American People Deserve to Know the Truth’

U.S. House Rep Matt Gaetz (R-FL) appeared on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show last night and vowed to have all the Jan. 6 footage released.

“The American people deserve to know the truth,” Gaetz insisted and he applauded House Speaker Kevin McCarthy for his recent statement on the matter.

Gaetz shared a clip from his appearance on the show and said, “The American people deserve to know the truth about what happened on January 6th.”

“We have demanded to see all the footage. Transparency is coming,” Gaetz explained.

Gaetz also said during the interview, “Every time from the JFK files, to 9/11, to now January 6th, it’s our own government, our own Department of Justice that seems to stand in the way of transparency.”

McCarthy told reporters on Thursday that he intends to make public the thousands of hours of footage from Jan. 6.

As Newsweek pointed out, it is something Republicans have long called for, as part of attempts to exonerate both lawmakers and civilians accused of wrongdoing in connection to the riots.

Newsweek, however, also warned that there is still the risk that McCarthy may inadvertently publicize previously unseen, damaging information about Republican lawmakers “already under scrutiny for their actions and rhetoric” from before Jan. 6.

Gaetz said in a tweet where he shared a clip of McCarthy’s statement, “Thank you to the 20 patriots who helped EARN this commitment from the Speaker. Thank you @SpeakerMcCarthy for affirming this commitment you made. Keeping promises is how trust is built. I’m growing more optimistic by the day!”
