McCarthy: ‘How Many More Americans Have to Lose Their Jobs’ While ‘Pelosi Showcasing Her Gourmet Ice Cream’

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy went on CNBC and Fox News today and talked about how Democrats blocked funding for the Paycheck Protection Program.

He asked in a tweet with a video from his CNBC interview, “How many more Americans have to lose their jobs before Democrats to stop blocking it?”

On Fox News he criticized Pelosi for “going on late night TV and showcasing her gourmet ice cream” rather than coming up with a solution to this. He said that she is “requesting more data” before they can move forward.

Republicans have a simple, single-page bill that would do one thing: add more money for small businesses to keep people employed. How many more Americans have to lose their jobs before Democrats to stop blocking it?

McCarthy to CNBC: We’re not asking to change anything in the CARES act, just something that actually works. Add more money to it so people stay employed. 75% of that money actually goes to keeping people employed in your small business. People that you know, keeping them alive and working. But, as we asked for more money, the Democrats said no.

It could have passed by a simple unanimous consent. It was one page in the Senate, they said no. Here we are about to run out of money today and Nancy Pelosi will still hold it back, I don’t understand why.

We just got 5 million more reasons why this should stop, this morning, and this is about keeping people employed, this is about keeping people liquidity for the next couple months as we continue to move through our current crisis.

Funding ran out for the Paycheck Protection Program today and McCarthy shared the message that comes up now when someone would try to enroll with an application on the SBA website.

Thanks to Democrats, this is now the message small business owners will see when they try to apply for help through the Paycheck Protection Program. connect.sba.gov

It was announced this morning that around 5 million more people filed first-time unemployment claims last week as the Coronavirus pandemic continues to devastate the job market in every sector of the economy.

State-mandated lockdowns have choked vast parts of the once-booming economy, kicking a total of 22 million people out of work and launching the nation into the worst crisis since the Great Depression.
