House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Wednesday the Democratic members who will serve on a newly established oversight panel with broad authority to oversee the federal response to the Coronavirus pandemic.
House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy responded to the list of names which includes Maxine Waters, a frequent critic of President Trump, by saying that the “committee is just Impeachment 2.0.”

Earlier in the day he said that “The Democrats have no plan” and that “The American people deserve better.” He doesn’t believe they will “hold communist China accountable” or know when they will “reconvene Congress itself.”
The Democrats have no plan—whether it’s to hold communist China accountable or to reconvene Congress itself. The American people deserve better.

He also believes that the “American people” aren’t getting “elected leaders who will work day in and day out” with Democrats being in charge of the House of Representatives.
The American people deserve elected leaders who will work day in and day out. That’s not what they’re getting from the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives.

Pelosi insists though, that she wants the committee to be as “nonpartisan as possible and very much a part of doing the right thing for the American people.”
The panel is supposed to consist of seven Democrats and five Republicans, according to the text of the resolution establishing it.
Pelosi said, “We’re hoping that the Republican leader will name his members soon. We’ve been in communication. I told him a couple of days ago who I was going to be appointing so he can make his own judgments about the committee.”
