Former Virginia Congressman Who Attended ‘Global Citizen Fest.’ Blasted for Similarities to Northam’s Mail in Vote Plan

Two pieces put out recently by National File have highlighted some creepy similarities between a prominent Virginia Republican and the Democrat Governor famous for blackface/KKK College yearbook photos on his page. Currently, Governor Ralph Northam, (D-VA), who’s has enacted some of the strictest Coronavirus lockdowns in the region, is pushing vote by mail.

Through his Attorney General Mark Herring, they have enacted a scheme to allow this to go on without a witness signature, which is normally required by state law, as reported by National File. Meanwhile, on the Republican side, Scott Taylor, a former U.S. Congressman for the 2nd Congressional district who infamously lost his red district seat to Democrat Elaine Luria, wants his seat back.

He is running to try and catch the 2020 “Trump Wave” in hopes to convince 2018 Virginia voters that they were wrong in “unelecting” him. He was initially going to run for U.S. Senate, but for reasons unbeknownst to us, (likely the fact that it is extremely hard for any Republican to win a statewide election these days) he switched over to running for his old seat again.

This was after many in the local Republican Units had already thrown their support behind one of two other candidates who are running, under the assumption that Taylor was not in the race. Jarome Bell and Ben Loyola, are also running for the primary to face Luria in the fall.

National File reports that Taylor, after having his 2018 campaign embroiled in an election fraud scandal that ended up causing one of his staffers to plead guilty to “willful neglect of election duty” is now pushing vote by mail. Taylor insists that his version of the push is, of course, nothing like Governor Northam’s and that anyone reporting otherwise just wants to help his “weak” primary opponents.

Many strong conservatives, however, have turned away from Taylor after his lukewarm conservative values were revealed the last time around. Taylor pushed a bill when he was first inaugurated to Congress to make the LGBTQ a “protected class” in real estate.

He also trashed President Trump when he was being criticized for his Charlottesville “Unite the Right” comments, saying that Trump “exhibited a failure of leadership“. One of the other things brought into question was Taylor’s attendance of a generally left-wing gathering, called the Global Citizen Festival. Big League Politics reported further on that story previously which you can read about here.

National File reported that Taylor, “has repeatedly encouraged mass mail-in absentee voting, going as far as to release a brief video instructing voters on how to properly fill out their ballot in his favor”. They went on to report of Taylor’s plan:

“Here are five steps to vote absentee,” Taylor tells viewers, before instructing them to “select code ‘2A – my disability or illness’ as your reason for requesting an absentee ballot…Vote for me, Scott Taylor, then mail your ballot back before June 16th, it’s that simple.” Notably, Taylor omitted the requirement of a witness signature, despite the ad being released the week prior to Herring’s suspension of the requirement.

Taylor had previously responded to an earlier report about the mail in voting topic:

Shortly after that he or his campaign made another Facebook post encouraging people to vote by absentee on the front of a card that says to vote on June 23rd inside. If nothing else, the message is confusing indeed. Is he encouraging people who are genuinely absent from the area to make sure they get their votes in, or is he promoting Democrat style “vote by mail?” It’s up to the voter to decide what they think in the end.
