Mike Garcia’s Lead Grows to a 422 Vote Margin Over Christy Smith After Latest Update In CA House Race

Last week, we reported that former Navy fighter pilot and current California Republican House Rep. Mike Garcia’s race had narrowed to 159 votes against Democratic Assemblywoman Christy Smith in a rematch from a May special election for the seat.

Since then, the gap had narrowed to 104 seats, but after more ballots were counted and released today, Garcia was able to widen the lead now to an estimated 422 votes.

As reported by KHTS, on Friday, Nov. 13, there were 98,440 ballots that needed to be counted across Los Angeles County, part of which makes up the district, and no estimate of the ballots remaining in CA-25, according to the registrar’s office.

County officials across the state of California have until the beginning of December to report their final results to the state for the presidential race, while they have until Dec. 4 to report the results for all other races and the state then has one week from that deadline to certify the results of the 2020 election.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Neither campaign has officially declared victory or conceded.

Sticking to the schedule from last week, Friday afternoon is the next updated count scheduled to be released from Los Angeles County.

It is unclear if more results from Ventura County, where the other part of the district encompasses, will be released on Thursday, as they were last week.
