MSNBC Host Joy Reid Calls Republicans Who Support Trump Part of ‘Racial and Religious Cult of Personality’

MSNBC’s Joy Reid is no stranger to controversy. Previously we reported on Reid in a video where she seemed to imply that Attorney General Bill Barr was somehow connected to the apparent suicide of Jeffrey Epstein. In a more recent video, Reid makes some new shocking statements. This time it is in response to a new poll showing that Republicans see President Donald Trump as more favorable than Abraham Lincoln. In the video, there is back and forth between Joy Reid and others on the MSNBC show “AM Joy”.

Guest Leonard Pitts responds to the poll by “The Economist/YouGov” showing 53-47% of Republican voters think President Trump is better than Lincoln was at running the USA. He says, “is there a brick wall I can bang my head against before I can answer that?” to which Reid replied jokingly, “I can give you one”. Pitts went on to say, “it speaks further to the delusionary aspect of the Republican Party right now. This is not a party this is a cult”.

Host Joy Reid then took the initiative to imply her agreement with her guest and then goes on to take it a step further than that. “And there’s a lot of ways if you look at like the ‘Public Religion Research Institute’ numbers, that you know, it isn’t just a pejorative to say that it’s a cult. There’s a lot of evidence that it is a racial and religious cult of personality in which his base is solidly among the white evangelicals that almost worship him and say that he’s the chosen one of God”.

Rather than putting it in any type of perspective after that, Pitts continues on, even more, apparently to ensure the viewers that he, in fact, isn’t exaggerating or using hyperbole. “When I say that, I’m not being rhetorical. I mean that literally, that there is a very cult-like aspect to what we’re seeing going on with Trump, particularly in the aspect of, Trump is ‘he who must not be questioned’.” He goes on longer to continue to support his opinions while the banter continues and they laugh about a recent tweet that President Trump fired off with a picture of his head photoshopped onto ‘Rocky Balboa’s” body.

The two went on to talk about former President George W. Bush, agreeing that although he wasn’t their favorite, he “had a soul”. This was giving the potential implication without actually saying it, that perhaps President Trump doesn’t have a soul.

Reid then went on to bring up the common Democrat talking point of claims that President Trump puts people of color in cages at the southern border, even though oft-left leaning fact-checkers such as Politifact recently fact-checked presidential candidate Joe Biden (D) on similar statements as false. This was because, according to many sources, the ‘cages’ at the southern border were actually implemented under the Obama administration, and the definition of the term cages has been brought into question as well if you click the link below and read the full story.

Sourced from Politifact:

The term “cages” has continuously been used by Democrats in attacks against Trump and the detention of immigrants arriving at the border. The Trump administration says that the facilities it uses are not cages.

The description has been used to refer to chain-link enclosures holding immigrants at border processing facilities during both the Obama and Trump administrations.

Notably, critics of Trump’s “zero-tolerance” policy that resulted in family separations circulated a photo that purportedly showed children face down on the floor behind a chain-link enclosure during Trump’s tenure. However, the photo was from 2014 when Obama was president.

Our fact-check showed the Associated Press photo was taken in 2014 at a Customs and Border Protection facility in Nogales, Ariz. The photo was used in an Arizona Republic article centered on an influx of children arriving at the border unaccompanied by a parent or guardian.

To sum up the story, although it isn’t false that President Trump’s base is certainly shored up by a large percentage of ‘white evangelicals’, evidence shows that there is rising support among the African American community as well. In a story by PJ Media here, you can read about two recent polls showing 34% approval ratings by the black community for President Trump. How that will translate into votes come next November will potentially be a different story, but it certainly lends to the credibility of a theory that perhaps Joy Reid and her host are quite possibly missing the mark by just a hair.
