New Poll Shows Over Half of Republicans Support Trump for Republican Presidential Nominee, 43 Points Ahead of DeSantis

A poll released Friday from Reuters Ipsos, Shows that 54% of Republicans would choose Donald Trump for the Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential election. Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, was trailing the former president by 43 points, with a mix of other Republicans holding less than 10%.

The poll asked, thinking about the presidential election in 2024, who would you support as the Republican nominee for president? The second-place answer was, not sure with 14%, Desantis came in third with 11%, Mike Pence had 8% and the rest were all under 5%. This question was only asked of the participants who identified as Republican.

Trump still holds a commanding position in the Republican party, despite being banned from major social media, Facebook and Twitter. Although Trump could use other platforms such as Gab.com, he has chosen to start Truth social. Rumors are that Truth Social will censor the way Parler and Gettr do though, to appease global investors.

You don’t hear as much from the former president as you did before he was deleted off the social media giants. That seemingly hasn’t stopped his base from supporting another run from Trump. Many argue that if the elections were held this year Trump would be the winner, and some still dispute the outcome of the 2020 election.

The poll asked a number of other questions of all respondents to review the job that President Biden is currently doing. One of the questions was, Do you approve or disapprove of the way Joe Biden is handling immigration? 51% of all respondents disapprove of the job Biden is doing with immigration with only 41% approving. Biden has been perceived as opening the borders when he took office, the number of crossings of illegal immigrants has surged since he stepped into the role as president.

The Biden Administration has even fought and dragged its feet after the Supreme Court ordered his administration to reimplement the Trump era Remain in Mexico policy, all while claiming that we do not have an open border.

Another question the poll asked, In your opinion what is the most important problem facing the U.S. today? The top answer was, Economy generally, with 29%, this comes as inflation hits highs many haven’t seen since the 1970s or even in their lifetime. Other top answers were healthcare and immigration.

A follow-up question to, what is the most important problem facing the U.S. was, In your opinion, which political party has a better plan, policy, or approach to the U.S. Economy? Republicans led Democrats in the answers by two points with 35% saying that Republicans have a better plan.

The full results of the poll can be seen here. The full document is 41 pages long with a lot of different and interesting topics.

One interesting question asked was, to the best of your knowledge, which of the following would happen if the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade? 16% believe that abortions would become illegal in the United States immediately, 28% believe abortions would become mostly illegal in the United States, with some exceptions for rape, incest, and health of the mother, and 32% believe laws governing abortion would be made at the state level, allowing for it to remain legal in some states and become illegal in others.

Trump hasn’t officially announced he will run for the nomination but if he does it looks like he has the support to take the Republican nomination and possibly even take back the White House.
