New York AG Files Lawsuit Seeking to Dissolve NRA in Possible Politically Motivated Attack

New York Attorney General Letitia James announced today that the state is seeking to dissolve the National Rifle Association (NRA) in a lawsuit that accuses the leadership of the nonprofit of diverting millions of dollars for their own personal use.

In the first line of the press release, James describes the NRA as “the largest and most influential pro-gun organization in the nation.”

James is a Democrat who had previously criticized the organization, accusing them and President Trump and “his allies in Congress” of doing “absolutely nothing” while “our schools, our workplaces, and our places of worship have become killing fields — due in part to the free-flowing movement of guns.”

Her lawsuit claims that the NRA is “fraught with fraud and abuse” and that they have “for years of self-dealing and illegal conduct that violate New York’s charities laws and undermine its own mission.”

Conservative activist Mike Coudrey said of the lawsuit, “We are at a dangerous time in this country where those in charge of justice have turned into political activists who investigate and prosecute their political opposition under manufactured and fraudulent pretenses.”

He added in another tweet, “Just your daily reminder the Clinton Foundation embezzled hundreds of millions of dollars and was complicit in the Uranium 1 scandal and the NY AG wants to instead investigate the NRA under fraudulent and manufactured pretenses.”
