Newsom in Trouble as Former Top California Dem Throws Weight Behind Larry Elder in Recall Throwdown With Video Ad

Gloria Romero is the former majority leader for the state senate in the very left-leaning state of California. The last thing you’d expect from someone like her would be to go against her own party.

Gavin Newsom, the current Democrat Governor is facing a recall election as you probably know. Although there has been some pushback against Larry Elder for taking a moderate approach and likening himself to Mitt Romney, he may still be the Republican front-runner.

Ever since Elder announced, there hasn’t been as much talk about Caitlyn Jenner for one. Although some other Republicans running may be running as farther right, they don’t have the name recognition as Elder. These are just the facts, regardless of where you stand on the race.

It’s unlikely for the Governor’s seat to flip red, but many say now is as good a time as any to try, with Biden falling in the polls, and people getting sick of high crime in the wake of the defund the police movement.

Nevertheless, Romero is throwing her weight behind Elder, not Newsom. Not only that, she cut a video ad supporting Larry Elder, which is a huge proverbial kick in the gut to Gavin Newsom and the California Democrat Party. Laurel Rosenhall tweeted about it:

Democrat Gloria Romero, a former CA legislator & longtime charter school advocate, cut an ad supporting GOP candidate Larry Elder in the #RecallElection. Elder’s campaign tells me this ad will air “in nearly every major media market in the state”

Romero has long defied political norms by criticizing leaders of her own party, and many political insiders dismiss her as an oddball. But voters will likely see this ad with a different lense: A Democrat (& a Latina) calling out Newsom’s hypocrisy on school closures.

Latino voters, btw, could play a big role in deciding this election — so both sides are trying to win Latino votes

Many who know Larry Elder know he is very conservative. Perhaps he is trying to appeal to moderates to have a real chance at winning. We aren’t fans of pandering to the left here, but it will still be interesting to see how everything shakes out in this race.

Fox News reports in part:

Elder currently leads the pack of Republican candidates looking to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom in the Sept. 14 recall election.

The election comes after harsh criticisms of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s coronavirus handling, including last November when the Democratic governor was spotted dining in a swanky restaurant maskless and surrounded by people from outside of his own household.

Although this will be a tough race for any Republican to win, if Elder or another one somehow does, much of the blame will not only fall at the feet of Newsom, but of the Biden/Harris regime. This could also lead to speculation of a possible upset in the Virginia Governor’s race, although highly unlikely.

Many Republican voters who feel long betrayed by week kneed Republicans who continue to lose seat after seat to the aggressive Democrats are hoping for a pendulum swing. But if they get said swing, they want American First leaders, not bought and paid for corporate shills in suits.
