PA State Sen Doug Mastriano Enters Gov Race One Day After Reporting That His Mother Passed Away

One can imagine that it has been quite the 48 hour period for PA GOP State Sen Doug Mastriano as he announced today that he is running for governor, only one day after reporting that his mother had passed away.

Mastriano posted a picture of him with his mother on his Facebook page and received an outpouring of support as the post surpassed 50k likes.

PA GOP State Sen Mario Scavello told Mastriano in a reply, “Doug, May you find some small comfort in the many loving memories of your beloved mother. With Deepest Sympathy…Your family is in our prayers, Mario.”

As for the announcement that he is running for governor, WFMZ 69 News reported that Mastriano said, “Running for a state-wide office is no small undertaking. It will take a strong grassroots movement to restore our state from the damage done to it, and such a movement is exactly what we have.”

“From the fireside chats to the Gettysburg hearing, we have stood together through a dark period in Pennsylvania history. We remember Gov Wolf’s draconian rules that shut down your businesses, sent Covid positives into nursing homes that resulted in thousands of tragic and unnecessary deaths,” Mastriano lamented.

Mastriano continued, “Wolf declared many jobs as ‘non-essential,’ and then issued contradictory mask requirements on you and your children. And now, many are facing job loss and an uncertain future with vaccine mandates.”

“There are a lot of people already in this race for governor. What is disconcerting is that of the assortment of candidates, few did anything when we faced the darkness and uncertainty of Wolf’s edicts and Covid shutdowns. This is no time to settle for yet another dithering politician when our freedoms and liberties are being stripped away. It is time for proven leadership,” Mastriano declared.

As for his current elected position, Mastriano explained, “I was compelled to run for office after retiring from the Army because our state and nation were less prosperous, less free, less secure and less good than how we received it from our parent’s generation. I could not stand aside as corrupt politicians stripped our country of all that is good and just.”

Mastriano joins 13 Republican candidates already vying to replace Dem Gov. Tom Wolf, who is term-limited, and whoever wins the primary is likely to face second-term state Attorney General Josh Shapiro has effectively cleared the primary field with his candidacy.

GOP Congressional candidate Teddy Daniels is one of several who are scheduled to speak at a kick-off event today for Mastriano.

“Honored to be asked to speak today at a huge event in Gettysburg with Doug Mastriano Fighting for Freedom. This is going to be an incredible day!” Daniels announced in a Facebook Post.
