Top selling country legend Toby Keith announced in June he was fighting stomach cancer. He has had a tough week as he is still recovering. He will sadly no longer be appearing at the Sabeswings’ second annual strike-out fundraiser, at least not in person.
A spokesperson for Bret Saberhagen confirmed that Keith is unable to appear as “he is still in recovery” and “not yet up for the travel”
He was set to receive the Sabeswings Second annual Lifetime Achievement Award for his work with cancer patient support programs through the Toby Keith Foundation as well as the Ok Kids Korral, a cost-free home for families of children being treated at The Children’s Hospital at OU Medical.
Keith shared about the award on Instagram:
“Next week, Toby will be honored by his friend #MLB legend @bretsaberhagen & his wife Kandace and receive the @sabeswings Second Annual Lifetime Achievement Award. Through his work with the @tkfoundation1, he’s been helping cancer patients and their families for years. The story about the cause is in the new @themagazinelifestyle, written by @liztaylorworld.”
Instead of accepting the award in person, he will now accept the ward virtually via a “custom video that will be played a the event”.
The event organizer said that Keith is “heartbroken” that he is unable to attend as he is very “passionate about these charities.”
Keith also played at former and possible future President Donald Trump’s inauguration in Washington D.C. Despite that, he largely avoids controversy and maintains a massive fan base.
Toby Keith is a huge supporter of our military as well as being passionate about these foundations. We wish him a speedy recovery as he continues this battle with stomach cancer.
