A group of American families and communities are in mourning after shooting incidents over the Fourth of July weekend that resulted in the deaths of six children, the youngest just 6 years old in San Francisco, California – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s district.
Pelosi acknowledged the killing of 6-year-old Jace Young, who was shot and killed while watching fireworks on July 4th in San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood, by calling it a “tragic loss of a child to gun violence.”
She claimed “No parent — no family — should have to feel this pain” and then pushed a gun control bill, saying “The Senate must take swift action” on “H.R. 8” which the House passed last year.
This weekend, our San Francisco family was once again struck by the tragic loss of a child to gun violence. No parent — no family — should have to feel this pain. Last year, the House passed H.R. 8 to #EndGunViolence. The Senate must take swift action. https://t.co/5lTfM8QhZD

H.R. 8 is the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019. The Act would require a background check for every firearm sale. The purpose of the Act is “to utilize the current background checks process in the United States to ensure individuals prohibited from gun possession are not able to obtain firearms.” It is unclear if that would have made a difference in this murder.
From ABC 7:
Jace was the “perfect child,” according to his aunt Ayofemi Bryant.
“A 6-year-old, and I know he was scared. I know he was scared and I know he was looking for his mom. He was a baby,” said Bryant.
Devastated, the Bryant family says Jace was watching fireworks with his sister at a birthday party in the Bayview when a bullet hit his body.
“Whoever did this to him we need justice. We need somebody to speak up. If you heard something, we need them to tell,” said Bryant.
