Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi appeared on CNN yesterday and described police chokeholds as a “lynching.” She further called them “a strangulation.”
President Trump said today that he has signed an executive order that will ban chokeholds “except if an officer’s life is at risk.”
Trump said during a Rose Garden event he convened to sign the order that “what is needed now is not more stoking of fear and division. We need to bring law enforcement and communities closer together, not to drive them apart.”
Nancy Pelosi said that Trump’s Executive Order falls seriously short of what she believes is required. She believes the only way to resolve the issue is to enact the Justice in Policing Act. That bill was put forth by Democrats in the House.
The President’s Executive Order falls seriously short of what is required to combat the epidemic of racial injustice & police brutality that is murdering Black Americans. We must insist on the bold change found in the George Floyd #JusticeInPolicing Act.
