Kohberger is accused of four counts of first-degree murder, fatally stabbing to death four University of Idaho students, Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernolde, and Ethan Chapin in the early morning of November 13th.
Kohberger was initially tied to the murders by his white Hyundai Elantra, as one had been seen on serval videos around the area at the time of the murders.
The vehicle was seen passing the area serval times and then stopped appearing on camera at 4:04 am. Around 20 minutes later the vehicle then showed up on surveillance videos speeding away from the area. Police believe that Kohberger was to Washinton State University in Pullman, WA where Kohberger was a Ph.D. student.
DNA was also found on a leather sheath that was left at the crime scene. It matched to his father’s genetic profile through testing.
Kohberger traveled to Pennsylvania for Christmas break. He and his father drove the white Hyundai Elantra from Washington to Pennsylvania. They were stopped twice on their trip at the direction of federal investigators who wanted images of Kohberger’s hands.
Kohberger was arrested on December 30 and then extradited to Idaho a few days later.
Kohberger had denied any wrongdoing and believes he will be exonerated. He is being held without bail and no plea was entered at the latest hearing.
