This comes in the wake of recent shootings in Dayton, OH, and El Paso, TX.

He stated he has a great relationship with the NRA and that he’s spoken to them on numerous occasions regarding intelligence and background checks. Mitch McConnell is “totally on board” Trump stated. He says he’s been talking to hardline second amendment supporters and says that “they understand that we don’t want insane people, mentally ill people, bad people, dangerous people, we don’t want guns in the hands of the wrong people.”

The full video of President Trump speaking to reporters as he is departing the White House to West Hampton Beach, NY can be seen here. It starts at about 1:12:00.

He also highlighted in the interview to the press how tariffs on Chinese goods, in his view, are working well.

Gun enthusiasts and ardent second amendment supporters are likely to be discouraged by this news. It is too early to tell exactly how this will affect law-abiding gun owners and this is sure to be an ongoing emotional debate for a long time to come.
