Newsweek has fired reporter Jessica Kwong who went viral for her article/tweet, “How is Trump spending Thanksgiving? Tweeting, golfing and more”.

Jessica Kwong was assigned to write about what the president was doing on Thanksgiving. The story with false information was published before President Trump’s trip to Afganistan was make public.  However, when the information was made public the story was assigned to another reporter to write about. Kwong eventually updated the article the title and the premise of the article were changed to, “How is Trump spending Thanksgiving? Tweeting, golfing — and surprising U.S. troops in Afganistan”. Kwong also took down her original tweet and replaced it with a tweet calling the original story “an honest mistake.”

Kwong’s twitter account describes her as a Political reporter @Newsweek covering Trump administration and family, 2020 race. Trilingual (English, Spanish, Cantonese) and loving it. Scrolling through her articles on Newsweek she has an array of petty negative Trump articles such as “Former Trump Supporter: ‘Real Veterans’ will Support Impeaching President” and “Trump Holds ‘Quid Pro Quo’ Note to Air Force One, Misspells Zelensky’s Name”. One can clearly see her anti-Trump bias in her reporting. Her assumptions on what she believed the President would be doing on Thanksgiving that she did run by her editor before the article was published have now ended with the loss of her job with Newsweek.

When she released her article twitter spread it like fire which got hotter when it was found that she was very wrong. Now that she has been terminated twitter is once again a flurry with tweets about it, It may have been her most viral article.
