Republican U.S. Senator Who Voted Against 18 GOP Turncoats on ‘Sneak Attack’ Gun Control Legislation in Recent Spending Bill Speaks Out

18 U.S. GOP Senators recently passed another wasteful federal spending frenzy (bill). One of the ones who voted against it however, sent an email to his constituents explaining his no vote.

We previously reported:

Senator Crapo (R-ID) wrote:
“Thank you for contacting me about the gun control provisions in H.R. 2471, the Consolidated Appropriations Act 2022. I share your concerns and welcome the opportunity to respond.

On March 10, 2022, the Senate passed H.R. 2471. In addition to funding the government, H.R. 2471 included unrelated proposals, such as the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) Denial Notification Act. The NICS is the system intended to prevent individuals barred from owning firearms from purchasing firearms from a federal firearms licensee (FFL). I agree that requiring local law enforcement to be notified of every failed NICS check, even when those denials occur in error, could result in undue legal burdens on la w-abiding gun owners and FFLs. Further, it raises questions about enforcement, as Idaho law prevents Idaho law enforcement from enforcing federal gun control measures that violate the Idaho Constitution. For these reasons, I voted againstH.R. 2471. Legislation to fund the government should not be a vehicle to sneak gun control into law.

Let me reassure you, I do not support any further gun control.  We as Americans must protect and preserve our constitutional right to bear arms.  I will not support any legislation that will hinder the ability of law-abiding citizens to acquire a firearm.

The Second Amendment reads: “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”  I firmly believe this provision prohibits the federal government from denying citizens this right.

Again, thank you for contacting me. Please feel free to contact me in the future on this or other matters of interest to you.
