Ron DeSantis Turns Down Request For Florida National Guard at Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address

Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis announced today that he has turned down a request by Joe Biden to send Florida National Guard members to the District of Columbia for his State of the Union address.

DeSantis said in a tweet, “Last week, the Biden Administration requested the assistance of State National Guards to deploy to Washington D.C.”

“I have rejected this request — there will be no @FLGuard sent to D.C. for Biden’s State of the Union,” DeSantis declared.

DeSantis and Biden have been at odds often during his presidency and this appears to be another shot across the bow for the popular governor.

The steel fencing has been erected again around the US Capitol ahead of Biden’s address to Congress, as Washington D.C. braces for potential protests by trucker convoys.

Barricades around the Capitol were initially installed following the events of Jan. 6, 2021, and remained in place for months before being removed.

According to the Daily Mail, Capitol Police chief Tom Manger said the fence is being put up “out of an abundance of caution” and in consultation with the Secret Service.

Manger said in a statement, “In light of the upcoming State of the Union Address, and the possibility of demonstrations in the next couple of weeks a plan has been approved to put up the inner-perimeter fence around the Capitol building for the State of the Union Address.”
