Schumer Accuses Trump of Taking a ‘Victory Lap’ With Jobs Report, Claims More ‘Fiscal Relief’ Needed

Earlier this morning, President Trump held a press briefing to praise the June jobs report which said that 4.8 million jobs were added to the U.S. economy. He posted on Twitter, “JOBS, JOBS, JOBS” and “HISTORIC JOBS NUMBERS!”

House Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was not as excited about the news and accused the president of taking “a victory lap.” He instead chose to focus on the fact that “Coronavirus cases are at record highs and more than 17 million Americans are unemployed.”

He also issued a statement where he claimed that additional “federal fiscal relief” was needed in order to ensure that the economy continues to thrive.

Today’s jobs report may just be a slight peak in a much larger valley, and unless Pres. Trump demonstrates real leadership and the Senate GOP get off their hands and work with Democrats to provide additional federal fiscal relief, the pain America is experiencing will only worsen. President Trump must not repeat the same mistakes with this economic crisis that he made initially with COVID-19—ignoring it and brushing it aside now will only ensure that things will get worse once again.

Schumer also spoke on the Senate floor where he referenced a Washington Post report on Arizona testing and asked in reference to the president, “can you believe the bubble this man lives in?”
