In a National File exclusive, the Broward County Democratic Socialists of America in South Florida showed a slideshow in a zoom call where they condoned looting and rioting and said that the actions were actually a redistribution of wealth and uprisings.
From the National File:
“I still, and a lot of our groups, still actually support and stand in solidarity for people who are taking those actions. So it’s so important to change the language to say uprisings, to say redistributing wealth, and not recreate this narrative of peaceful versus violent, because we know who the true violent people are. They are police. And we are responding to that. So just want to make sure folks are clear on that.”
In a tweet announcing the meeting, they said that they “received an overwhelmingly positive response from those who joined in demanding justice for George Floyd, Tony McDade, and countless others whose lives were destroyed by police, last Sunday.”
They continued by claiming that in “an effort to ensure safety and solidarity” they were “hosting a direct action training to equip all who attend with the skills and tactics of how to manage a protest.”

A previous tweet mentioned the Sheriff’s office budget for the county and how much that was for 2019-2020, $545,633,485. They asked, “Where would you have liked to see some of this money spent in your communities?”

A curfew had been issued for Broward County from 9pm to 6am from Sunday, May 31st until June 3rd after “protests turned violent” as the local news station reported.
The Fort Lauderdale mayor said that demonstrators came with concrete blocks, gas masks, and cartons of milk. He said, “they were ready for something because they knew something was going to happen… because they were going to create it, they were going to provoke it.”
