New York Congresswoman and House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik reacted today to the news that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi may step down after next year’s midterm elections.
In a tweet, Stefanik declared that Pelosi wouldn’t be stepping down, rather it will be because she will “Be FIRED once and for all by voters across America.”
“Yet House Democrats continue to bow to her failed Far-Left leadership & iron grip on her caucus even though everyone knows she is a LAME DUCK SPEAKER,” Stefanik added.

In a piece about Hakeem Jeffries potentially taking the reins from the 81-year-old Pelosi, written by Edward-Isaac Dovere for The Atlantic, Dovere wrote that Pelosi will announce she’s stepping down “probably after next year’s midterm elections.”
The article asserts that “Her top deputies… aspire to her job, but they’re also in their early 80s, and most Democrats in and out of Congress are counting on them to step aside too. Of course, they all have stock responses denying that anyone is ever going anywhere, but the day is coming.”
As Newsmax reported, in 2018, Pelosi called herself a “bridge to the next generation of leaders” and agreed to a deal that she would serve as speaker for no more than four years.
Pelosi also hasn’t completely shut the door, fueling speculation she could seek to prolong her 18-year tenure ruling the House Democratic caucus and she has continued to raise money.
A confidante who recently spoke with CNN stated, “Everyone assumes this is her last term, but no one knows for sure. People don’t realize how hard it was to win (the speaker’s race) last time.”
If Democrats lose the House after the midterm elections like many predict, it would likely be impossible for her to continue on in charge after two straight elections losing seats.
Trump supporter Juanita Broaddrick also celebrated the news with a viral tweet where she sarcastically fake-quoted Pelosi.
“Nancy Pelosi: ‘I have done as much damage as humanly possible to America and it’s citizens. Therefore, I will be stepping down before I am dragged down,'” Broaddrick quipped.
