As Cuba is being reported as having unrest and protests, different media outlets are reporting the story differently. The New York Times Apparently has claimed that “freedom” is an anti-government slogan, and U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) is pushing back on this. Cruz tweeted out what appears to be a screenshot from a New York Times tweet that only shows part of what was tweeted. It still appears to be very shocking. The part that can be seen reads: “Shouting “Freedom” and other anti-government slogans, hundreds of Cubans took to the streets in cities around..,.”
Cruz quote tweeted the image:
“I love how the NYT acknowledges that “freedom” is an “anti-government slogan.” Indeed.”

Indeed. pic.twitter.com/QRgdZB0Iwo
It is obvious to many that in our opinion, the New York Times has become a radical left-wing opinion site, and no longer simply reports the stories. That being the case, what they appeared to have said is still surprising to us. We found the original tweet with the article by the New York Times covering the Cuba situation that is ongoing. But first, it’s important that we mention something else.
Many on the right feel Cruz is missing the mark by attacking the New York Times’ questionable Cuba coverage. Lots of Americans on the right and those who supported former President Trump feel that their own government doesn’t necessarily always look out for their best interests or their interests at all.
Many Republicans are quick to defend dissident Cubans or Hong Kong protesters, making Americans on the right wonder if the GOP members in charge aren’t even caring about their own constituents, or are trying to score political points, rather than doing more about big tech censorship, immigration, and apparent politician discrimination in the U.S. Nevertheless, here is the tweet from the New York Times:
“Shouting “Freedom” and other anti-government slogans, hundreds of Cubans took to the streets in cities around the country on Sunday to protest food and medicine shortages, in a remarkable eruption of discontent not seen in nearly 30 years.”

The article itself was behind a member wall when we tried to read more. But it seems that the writers at the New York Times are shocked at the dissent by Cuban citizens. It’s hard to tell if they support them at all, or not. But Republicans like Ted Cruz want to make it appear as though the GOP will support them if the DNC doesn’t.
One person pointed out that Americans have their own problems:
“And yet in our own country people are literally attacked in cities for loving our flag.”

Another example from another “Republican”:
What about the Americans being silenced? https://t.co/sWw0SnwkBF

Republican American voters don’t care though, in our view, they want representation themselves, in a nation where it feels the Democrats have taken almost total control of. We are not comparing the United States to any other country here, merely pointing out that elected officials on both sides continue to appear out of touch.
