Texas ‘Teen’, 14, Gets Manslaughter Charge after 4-month-old Baby Shot to Death Tragically

The police in Lubbock Texas have reported that a “14-year-old male” is in custody and charged with manslaughter. This comes after a “Tuesday afternoon shooting in North Lubbock” that left a four-month-old dead. The entire post reads:

“Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit Makes Arrest in Tuesday Afternoon Shooting(LUBBOCK, TX) – A 14 year-old male is in custody, charged with manslaughter, following a Tuesday afternoon shooting in North Lubbock that left a four-month-old dead. Lubbock Police Officers responded to the 3600 block of Lehigh Street at 3:05 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, following reports of a shooting victim who had arrived via private vehicle at University Medical Center. Through the initial course of the investigation, it appears a group of juveniles was in the home when a gun was discharged and a round was fired, striking four-month-old Jaquari Jones. Jones was pronounced deceased at UMC. The 14 year-old was taken into custody on Wednesday, March 16, following an investigation by the Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit and was transported to the Lubbock County Juvenile Justice Center. The investigation is on-going. -end-“

Newsweek reported that the “teen” was not related to the victim. It appears that the four-month-old victim was somehow transported to the hospital with the gunshot wounds before law enforcement had even been notified. The four-month-old was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Lubbock Police Department’s Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit then took the suspect into custody to Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit.

It appears that the race of the victim and alleged shooter are, or if there was intent or if it was an accident. We will update you with more details on this tragic story if we are able to procure them. As the alleged killer is a minor, it may be that some details do not come out.

Newsweek added:

The majority of unintentional shooting victims are boys, with the person who shot them most often being a friend or a relative, according to Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

In a similar case, Newsweek reported Tuesday a Florida teen who fatally shot his 14-year-old friend would not face any criminal charges because police ruled the shooting, which took place while the friends were playing with a gun in his home, was an accident.
