To the Dismay of Liberals, GA State Sen Republican Introduces a Bill to Eliminate Absentee Ballot Drop Boxes Ahead of 2022 Elections

Liberals are furious after a Georgia State Senate Republican introduced a bill to elimiinate absentee ballot drop boxes ahead of the 2022 elections.

GOP State Sen Butch Miller, the No. 2 Republican in Georgia’s Republican-controlled senate and a candidate for lieutenant governor in the upcoming election, is the legislator who introduced the bill.

In a statement released by his office, Miller, the Georgia Senate’s president pro tempore, said drop boxes were a “weak link” in guarding against voter fraud.

Miller had previously been criticized by former President Donald Trump for not doing more to stop voter fraud and has said he will not support Miller’s bid for Lt. Gov.

Democratic Georgia State Rep Erick Allen, also a candidate for Lt. Gov, tweeted, “My opponent filed legislation today that would eliminate the use of absentee ballot drop boxes for Georgia elections.”

“To protect election integrity is to be on the side of the voters- by expanding access to the ballot box, not restricting it further,” Allen explained.

NPR’s Stephen Fowler reported, “As @markniesse and I reported, more than half of the absentee ballots returned in the four major (Democratic) metro Atlanta counties were returned using drop boxes. So this would disproportionately impact nonwhite voters and Democrats.”

“I’ve also talked with countless election officials and voting experts who say you can’t ‘put the genie back in the bottle’ and just axe popular easier voting methods without chaos and risking disenfranchising people,” Fowler added.

It is clear that these drop boxes gave Democrats an advantage, leading to them sweeping the Georgia elections in 2020.
