“Toby Keith is back!” a post to his Instagram account announced.
Keith performed two shows this past weekend, June 30th and July 1st. These shows were his first performances since he announced his diagnosis of stomach cancer in June of 2022. From the Instagram post, it appears that what was supposed to be a rehearsal turned into a pop-up show.
“Toby‘s first rehearsal turned into a 2 1/2 hour pop-up show. He sang all the hits plus the Bus Songs…Toby is back!”
This is more positive news as Keith announced last month he is hoping to hit the road by the end of the year possibly if he is able to. Keith said last month, “Basically, everything is in a real positive trend. You never know with cancer, so you have to prepare. I’ve got more wind and I’m thinking about bringing the band in and setting up, playing two or three days somewhere just to see if I can get through two hours.”
It appears that Keith was able to make it through two hours two days in a row.
In another Instagram post Keith shared “It felt so right, Toby had to do it twice. Two nights in a row at @hollywoodcorners. Writing buddy @scottyemerick joined Toby. Nights to remember! Toby’s back!”
Keith’s fishing and tackle company’s Twitter account shared videos from his performance on June 30th:
“6/30/23 Toby Keith sings Ted Nuget’s STRANGLEHOLD, at Hollywood Corners in Norman Oklahoma. Toby is rocking the crowd, after battling back from stomach cancer! Enjoy the backstage view!”
