Tucker Carlson Slams NY Gov. Cuomo For Threatening to Close ‘Religious Institutions’

Tonight on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show Tucker Carlson Tonight, Carlson slammed New York’s Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo for threatening to close “religious institutions.”

“Today, the governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo approved the closure of many non-essential business. That’s not because he’s opposed to lockdowns, he thinks the real problem is religious services,” Carlson said.

He then showed a clip of Cuomo, who said, “If the religious leaders do not agree to abide by these rules, then we will close the religious institutions, period.”

Carlson responded to the video, incredulous at what Cuomo said: “Really because the country that we lived in, in January, we had a first amendment that said government will not get in the way of your exercise of your religion. People would have laughed at that.”

“We will close the religious institutions period,” Tucker mocked Cuomo. “Who do you think you are? God?” Tucker asked.

“You’re not, you’re some stupid governor of a declining state. Many of the services being shut down, by the way, are Orthodox Jewish communities. They haven’t been playing along to their great credit. Putting aside whether any of that is legal, what’s the science behind it? The purported science behind it,” Carlson continued.

Carlson then referenced an earlier part of the clip, where he showed NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio talking about how protests are a different scenario because they are historic. Carlson said, “Protests fine, religious services not.”

The Daily Caller tweeted out the full video of Cuomo’s press conference earlier and included a quote from it referencing the Orthodox Jewish communities.

NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo: “I have to say to the Orthodox community tomorrow, ‘If you’re not willing to live with these rules, then I’m going to close the synagogues.'”
