Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi landed in Taiwan earlier today. Twitter user @YWNReporter shared a video of her plane touching down at the Taipei Songshan Airport.
“#BREAKING: WHEELS DOWN: The US military plane suspected to be carrying House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has landed in Taiwan at Taipei Songshan Airport. Now we await to see Chinas response – assuming Pelosi is actually in that plane.”

It was unclear if the Speaker would be visiting Taiwan after China threatened action. The Biden administration was vague when asked if they would support the Speakers trip. Pelosi moved forward with the trip and released the following statement after touching down.
America’s solidarity with the 23 million people of Taiwan is more important today than ever, as the world faces a choice between autocracy and democracy.

While the Biden Administration wouldn’t say they supported the speaker the U.S. Military deployed four warships east of Taiwan as the speaker was on her way to Taipei. The U.S. Navy has called the move routine deployments. One of the warships deployed is an aircraft carrier.
Navy spokesman said, “While they are able to respond to any eventuality, these are normal, routine deployments,” when asked about the ships.
China has also made moves to show its force in the area as well. Twitter user @E_blogbiafra shared:
“BREAKING: China is sending large forces to Fujian province off the coast of Taiwan, as Nancy Pelosi is expected to visit the island. U.S. Army has deployed warships near Taiwan. Things are very tense. #Taiwan“

China threatened action over Pelosi’s visit once it was announced. They released a propaganda video and have been doing live round drills close to Taiwan. China’s foreign affairs spokesperson said Pelosi’s visit will “grossly interfere with China’s internal affairs”.
Tensions are clearly high on the island of Taiwan. Many are happy to see Pelosi visit, she is the highest-ranking elected official to visit the island in 25 years.

One Twitter user claimed that China activated its war alarms as Pelosi’s plane entered Taiwan’s air defense zone.
