It was announced today that Prince Andrew the Duke of York and Virginia Giuffre have reached an out-of-court settlement in the sex abuse lawsuit that was filed in the United States.
In the civil case launched last August in New York, Giuffre alleged that the prince sexually abused her three times in the early 2000s.
The settlement comes after a report that Giuffre had lost a famous photo with him and Ghislaine Maxwell that was said to be critical to the case.
Andrew’s legal team was likely to use her inability to produce the original to bolster his argument that there is doubt around the authenticity of the image.
In the picture, Giuffre can be seen as a smiling 17-year-old, with a smiling Andrew’s arm slung around her bare midriff, as Maxwell is in the background also smiling.
The photo apparently went missing from her care at some point between 2011 and 2016 after the FBI returned it to her after making copies.
A British Solicitor, Nazir Afzal, said of the news, “He is willing to pay her large sums of money to her for something he denies. Make of that what you will.”

Giuffre’s attorney, David Boies, filed a motion in Manhattan federal court which said that lawyers on both sides were informing the judge that a settlement in principle has been reached and they’ll request a dismissal of the lawsuit within a month.
Last month, we reported that Maxwell had said she would no longer keep secret the names of the 8 “John Does” that were part of a 2015 lawsuit that was filed by Giuffre against her.
