In a shocking move, U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) endorsed U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), who voted to convict Donald Trump in February 2021 at his impeachment trial.
Murkowski has also been endorsed by U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) and some could view any endorsement by a Republican of her to receive similar backlash to if a Democrat were to endorse him as he has been viewed as an obstructionist to Joe Biden’s agenda.
Scott announced the endorsement in a tweet where he explained, “We need strong leaders like Lisa Murkowski – someone who has worked tirelessly for the people of Alaska her entire career.”
“Alaska, please join me in supporting @LisaForSenate!” Scott declared.
Arizona GOP State Senator Wendy Rogers responded to the endorsement by telling Scott in a quote tweet, “This is a horrible endorsement.”

Murkowski faces a challenge from Republican Kelly Tshibaka among 15 other candidates and the two are likely to advance from the primary that is coming up on August 16.
Unlike other states, the primary eliminates candidates from all parties and keeps the top four vote-getters.
Scott has received a lot of blowback on Twitter for his endorsement since he announced it yesterday including from “Catturd”, who replied, “She’s a total fraud and so are you for endorsing the loser.”

Scott’s tweet has been badly ratioed and a reply from Murkowski has also been ratioed as well where she said, “I’m grateful for your support, Senator Scott.”
I'm grateful for your support, Senator Scott.

Many appeared shocked in response so it is likely that Scott believes that any criticism will likely blow over eventually.
