Alec Baldwin Finally Surrenders His Cell Phone to Authorities One Month After Warrant Was Obtained

In a delay that most private citizens likely wouldn’t be afforded, actor Alec Baldwin has finally surrendered his cell phone to authorities one month after a warrant was obtained for it.

Despite the delay, Baldwin’s lawyer, Aaron Dyer, insisted that his client had been cooperating with authorities throughout the course of the investigation, and the delay in providing information from the phone was no indication otherwise.

Dyer, said in a statement yesterday, “Alec voluntarily provided his phone to the authorities this morning so they can finish their investigation.”

“But this matter isn’t about his phone, and there are no answers on his phone,” Dyer asserted, although generally, it would seem unlikely that a warrant would be obtained if that were the case.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office had stepped up pressure on Baldwin the day before the handover in a press release where they announced, “to date, the cell phone has not been turned over to authorities.”

According to the the Santa Fe New Mexican, Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Juan Rios said Baldwin’s phone was turned over yesterday to law enforcement officials in Suffolk County, New York.

Those officials will gather the information from the phone and provide it to Santa Fe County investigators, who are investigating the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film “Rust.”

Baldwin recorded a bizarre driver’s seat rant last week where he blamed right-wing media for fueling speculation that he wasn’t complying with the warrant.

“The best way, the only way, we can honor the death of Halyna Hutchins is to find out the truth, that’s what I’m working toward, insisting on, demanding, that the organizations involved in this investigation do everything in their power to find out what really happened,” Baldwin claimed in the video.

In a viral tweet on Wednesday, Dinesh D’Souza pointed out, “Kim Potter shot a violent criminal during an arrest. Alec Baldwin shot an innocent woman on a movie set. Both shootings were accidental. Potter’s going to prison. Baldwin hasn’t even been charged.”

D’Souza wondered, “What accounts for the disparate treatment in the two cases? #KimPotter #AlecBaldwin
