Biden Blasts America: ‘Vast Majority of People’ Think Nation is ‘Not As Good As We Could Be’

During a virtual town hall event last night with The Shade Room, presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden had some harsh words for the country. He said, “Do we really think this is as good as we can be as a nation? I don’t think the vast majority of people think that.”

The evidence that he provided was that he claimed President Trump has divided people. “The words a president says matter, so when a president stands up and divides people all the time, you’re going to get the worst of us to come out,” he said.

He believes he will unite Americans but “there are probably anywhere from 10 to 15 percent of the people out there that are just not very good people, but that’s not who we are. The vast majority of the people are decent, and we have to appeal to that and we have to unite people — bring them together. Bring them together.”

The words echoed what Hillary Clinton said in her 2016 run for the presidency, saying half of President Trump’s supporters belonged in a “basket of deplorables.”

At the beginning of the event, he brought up Barack Obama’s election telling moderator and actor Don Cheadle, “I thought we had made enormous progress when we finally elected an African American president.” He then said that he also “thought you could defeat hate, but the point is, you can’t.”

The Trump campaign pointed out that Biden repeated himself three times in a one minute span despite the assistance of his notes, which he kept glancing down at. “The act of protesting should never be allowed to overshadow the reason for the protest,” was the phrase he repeated.
