New charges could be brought against Jussie Smollett in the coming months based on today’s events.
Jussie Smollett’s attorney, Tina Glandian, has failed to block the appointment of a special prosecutor in the case of Jussie Smollett and District Attorney Kim Foxx, regarding the alleged “MAGA country hate hoax“.
Cook County Judge Michael Toomin ordered the special counsel investigation back on June 21st, an investigator though, has yet to be selected. This comes as a major blow to Smollett and his legal team as he previously thought he was off the hook when Cook County District Attorney Kim Foxx dropped all charges.
Judge Michael Toomin noted that Kim Foxx had no right to recuse herself from the case and then appoint her deputy in charge of the Smollett case instead. “Unprecedented irregularities” were cited in the judge’s 21-page report. See more in the video below:

After being let off, Jussie had also thought his job at the hit Fox show Empire was safe, as the cast and team had initially supported him despite a large consensus that he was never actually attacked by two white men saying “this is MAGA country”. Later though, it was announced that he was not returning to the show’s sixth season, the show itself, was subsequently canceled not long after that.
Many people, politicians, and celebrities had actually supported Smollett initially until it became relatively clear what more than likely happened. The group of initial supporters included Nancy Pelosi, recently in the news for her power struggle with “AOC+3“, or “The Squad”. Pelosi later felt obliged to delete a tweet she made in regards to the situation.
A few have held steadfast in their support for Smollett, such as Queen Latifah, but his allies on this topic are few and far between.
Attorney Tina Glandian issued a statement earlier today as can be seen in the video below.
In the video, a reporter asks:
“How has all of this affected his (Jussie’s) ability to work on projects or work with people or to do the things that he’s wanted to do?”
Glandian responded:
Certainly, it’s had an impact, it’s been a very big case and it’s had a tremendous impact, however, again as I said, there are many people who know him, who believe in him, who support him, and he’s a very talented actor and artist. So there’s still many people who want to work with him and he continues to do what he loves.
The reporter responded:
“But there are those who do not want to work with him, is that accurate?”
Glandian:
“Not to my knowledge, I don’t…”
Glandian then went on to say how she is very surprised that the court did not allow the legal team to intervene in the special counsel situation and that they are planning on appealing. She then went into further detail on the events that unfolded today and the future plans of the Smollett legal team.

It seems as though Smollett has a rough road ahead of him. One might wonder if he actually came forward with what many believe to be the truth if the general public would have more leniency in the court of public opinion, and maybe even some sympathy. This theory could be supported by the fact that there is so much solid evidence against him such as video footage from a taxi showing the Nigerian brothers who claim he paid them to orchestrate the whole thing, among other things.
