In an appearance on Stephen Colbert’s Late Show and tweet, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D) cited “history” and the Truman Committee as her reasoning for creating a Federal Response Investigative Committee on the Coronavirus and to oversee the distribution of federal funds from the Stimulus Bill.
History shows us that proper, timely Congressional oversight not only saves money – it saves lives. #FamiliesFirst #LSSC

Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R), voiced opposition to the select committee Thursday on a separate press call.
He said that Congress already wrote oversight provisions into the latest funding package. House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D), will chair the newly formed House committee and McCarthy took issue with that, saying he doesn’t support him serving as the chairman.
In an earlier tweet and appearance on Fox News McCarthy said that he believes it’s about politics and not oversight. He said that “she wants to exploit this crisis in order to fundamentally restructure America and advance her political agenda.”
Speaker Pelosi’s ambition to create a select committee on the coronavirus crisis isn’t about oversight. It’s pure politics. She wants to exploit this crisis in order to fundamentally restructure America and advance her political agenda.
