For those who don’t know or understand Memorial day, it is the day we take to remember those who died during military service. The first memorial day was celebrated in 1868. Flowers were placed on graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. The tradition later changed from honoring those who died during the civil war to those who died during all American wars.
This ‘long weekend’ has a lot more meaning than just and being a three-day weekend with lots of sales. Harris who is a second-generation American and no connection to the military that we are aware of seems to lack respect for those who have sacrificed it all in America’s wars in the eyes of many.
Harris’s tweet has hit a nerve with many, Marjorie Taylor Greene responded with, “Not one single Veteran gave their life to support your freedom killing Socialist BS. They served to protect our freedoms and our borders, which you clearly care nothing about since you haven’t been there once, VP Border Czar.”

Former Representative from Georgia Doug Collins also responded, “As the @VP enjoys a long weekend, maybe she could read a couple of books on the sacrifices made by those we honor with this holiday. #LastFullMeasureOfDevotion#WeRemember“

Many others have also weighed in earlier we reported on Lauren Boebert’s (R-CO) response:
“U.S. House Rep Lauren Boebert (R-CO) was among many who were appalled with her lack of mention about the federal holiday for honoring and mourning the military personnel who have died in the performance of their military duties while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
“This ‘long weekend’ has a name,” Boebert chided Harris in a quote tweet.“
