All five individuals found with the vehicle have been charged in connection to the Carjacking of Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA). Kristen Johanson Crime & Justice Reporter for KYWN reported the news on Twitter.

#NEW: 19yo Josiah Brown has been charged by Feds with carjacking, and aiding and abetting and gun offenses in carjack of Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon yesterday outside FDR park. A 13yo, 14yo, 15yo & 16yo have been charged in Delaware (as of now) @KYWNewsradio (corrected tweet)”

The FBI was able to track down the congresswoman’s vehicle in less than 24 hours after it was taken. United States Attorney Jennifer Arbittier Williams announced that 19-yearold Josiah Brown of Wilmington, Delaware was arrested and charged by Criminal Complaint on charges of carjacking and carrying and using a firearm during a crime of violence in connection with an armed carjacking that occurred in Franklin D. Roosevelt Park in South Philadelphia yesterday afternoon. The defendant made his initial appearance in federal magistrate court in Philadelphia this afternoon and is currently detained.

FBI Philadelphia released the statement on Twitter, “Wilmington Man to Face Federal Charges for Armed Carjacking in Franklin D. Roosevelt Park Yesterday Afternoon: Josiah Brown was arrested and charged by criminal complaint on charges of carjacking and carrying and using a firearm during a crime of violence.”

If convicted Brown faces a possible sentence of life in prison. All the other individuals charged were all under 18 and information beyond age and if they were male or female were not released. The age of the other four involved is as young as 13.

The reason for the federal charges is because of the federally sensitive information that was taken with the vehicle.

We reported earlier on the congresswoman’s carjacking.

As far as we can see Scanlon has not made any comments about the carjacking of the individuals charged since the 22nd when her office released an official statement.

With Scanlon pushing hard for police reform it will be interesting to see what all comes of this or if Scanlon changes any of her tune, now that she has been a victim of a crime.
