Next Tuesday in a run-off election, Georgia’s 14th district will vote again to decide who the Republican nominee will be. The winner of the June primary, Marjorie Taylor Greene is a construction company owner, who received just over 40% of the vote. Trump congratulated her for her win in a tweet.
A big winner. Congratulations! https://t.co/ZsL3YA33H8

Unfortunately, no one in the election cracked 50% so Greene will face off against John Cowan in this runoff election. Cowan received 21% of the vote on June 9th.
Cowan is a Neurosurgeon who during this pandemic has taken a stance in direct conflict with President Trump calling for a “Strong WHO” which can be seen in the video below.
The clip comes from an interview Cowan did with Arthel Neville on Fox News towards the end of April. During the interview, Cowan expressed we are all affected by the virus and we have to work together. Cowan then explains what he believes is needed, “ramping up our supply chain of P.P.E., detecting these viruses earlier, having a strong WHO, that is looking out for these things and monitoring them carefully.”
Before that interview was given in April, Trump had announced the United States would freeze WHO funding pending an investigation into the agency’s Covid-19 response.
“America and the world have chosen to rely on the WHO for accurate, timely, and independent information to make important public health recommendations and decisions. If we cannot trust that this is what we will receive from the WHO, our country will be forced to find other ways to work with other nations to achieve public health goals,” Trump declared in his announcement. A month and a half after the announcement Trump cut ties with the WHO for the mishandling of Covid-19.
Cowan also touts that he is Pro-Trump however according to FEC records he has never donated to the Trump Campaign. Cowan did make a donation in November of 2015 to Chris Christie’s short-lived failed presidential run. Christie has stated in the past that he supported Planned Parenthood with private contributions and that he is also Pro-Choice, however during the 2016 presidential debates he backtracked on his earlier statements. Christie is also well known as being anti-gun.
Cowan has also hired the same consultants that former candidate for Govoner Casey Cagle used. Cagle ran in the primary against Brian Kemp in 2018. Cagle opposed constitutional carry and doesn’t believe in expanding gun rights.
More recently, Cowan’s claims of being a Reserve Deputy have come under question, according to an article by Law Enforcement Today reported:
“Evidence suggests that Cowan’s status as a Reserve Deputy is falsified.”
Ronald Kilgo, a former Captain and Deputy Commander in the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office Reserves (FCSOR) gave a sworn statement where he said:
“Based on my observations, experience, and knowledge of the rules and regulations, I do not believe that Dr. John A. Cowan Jr is able to truthfully represent that he is a Reserve Deputy with the Floyd County Sheriff’s office.”
Kilgo also clarified that the process to become a Reserve Deputy is extensive. In order to qualify for the position, one must complete 408 classroom hours of training.”
Law Enforcement today also requested the records of current Reserve Deputies for Floyd County Sheriff’s Office. The letter of request and the response can be seen below:
According to the document above Cowan is listed as a member of the Tactical Emergency Medical Team. It is unclear if the Tactical Emergency Medical Team is required to participate in the same training as the Deputy Reserve officers. The document just states that their training is handled by the commander of the Rome-Floyd SWAT Team.
Sheriff Tim Burkhalter, who has endorsed Cowan, also issued a statement on the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page regarding the questions surrounding Cowan’s status as a reserve deputy which can be seen below:
Greene has called Cowan out saying, “You’re not a police officer and you need to stop parading yourself around like one.” Cowan’s campaign also issued a statement to Fox News that stated, he was sworn in as a deputy reserve four days before announcing he was running for the seat. It appears there is no clear answer to the questions being raised.
Cowan has received donations from the AMA (American Medical Association) a group that has actively sued to stop anti-abortion legislation in states like North Dakota and Oregon. Also from APA (American Psychological Association) which believes there are multiple genders, and that gender is just a social construct. In a video below from Marjorie Taylor Greene she exposes John Cowan for taking money from these anti-family groups as well and taking money from those associated with George Soros, Everytown for Gun Safety, and Mother’s Demand Action two groups actively lobbying for stricter gun control.
In a campaign video, Greene calls out Cowan for being on the side of renaming the military bases named after U.S. Confederate soldiers. Cowan seems to be mostly silent on the topic of Confederate monuments with no public stance. Greene on the other hand has taken a strong stance to defend American history and stand up for the monuments of people who helped build our great country.
Cowan appears to be trying to run as a Pro-Trump, Pro-Life, Pro-Gun candidate. He hasn’t shown any real signs as to how he is Pro-Trump other than not coming outright against the President. His stance on guns is also being criticized for his choice in a political consultant as well as pictures in campaign material where his finger is on the trigger of his gun while crouched under a tree with a crease in his shirt that have lead some to speculate that the clothes and maybe the gun were purchased just for the photo op. As for Pro-Life, donations to his campaign show that many who support Cowan Support Planned Parenthood’s agenda.
Tuesday the 14th district decides who will run against Democrat Kevin Van Ausdal in the November election. Will it be RINO Never Trumper John Cowan or the victor of the June primary and real Pro-America, Pro-Trump, Pro-Gun Marjorie Taylor Greene?
