We recently reported that former President Barack Obama announced that he was teaming up with rocker Bruce Springsteen for a podcast that would be released on Spotify.
In the second episode that was just released, Obama said he believes reparations are “justified” and that “there’s not much question that the wealth… the power of this country was built in significant part — not exclusively, maybe not even the majority of it, but a large portion of it — was built on the backs of slaves.”
Obama also claimed that a reparations proposal didn’t make its way through the lawmaking process during his presidency due to “the politics of White resistance and resentment.”
“What I saw during my presidency was the politics of White resistance and resentment. The talk of ‘welfare queens’ and the talk of the ‘undeserving’ poor. And the backlash against affirmative action,” Obama complained.
Obama then explained that “All that made the prospect of actually proposing any kind of coherent, meaningful reparations program struck me as, politically, not only a nonstarter but potentially counterproductive.”
The comments didn’t sit well with civil rights attorney Leo Terrell who appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show last night to offer his opinion on them.
Terrell said, “Let me just jump on this because Barack Obama, Sean and America, he’s pandering. He’s pandering to the far left because he needs to stay relevant. That’s why he’s talking reparations and affirmative action.”
“Let me tell you right now, in California they tried to pass affirmative action last year, I was one of the oppositions, it lost in blue state California and he’s wrong,” Terrell pointed out.
Terrell urged that paying people back for things that happened so long ago is unjustifiable and that “White people are not against reparation, all people are against reparation.”
Speaking to Trump supporter Herschel Walker, Terrell added that he believes “Black, brown, yellow, white, we don’t believe that reparations is justified for paying people for things that happened 180 years ago. This is nothing more than pandering so that Barack Obama can stay relevant to the socialists.”
