Three counts of felony murder and murder with malice and imprisonment have been filed against Father and son Greg and Travis McMichael A neighbor, William “Roddie” Bryan. There were 9 charges total against the three men.
Travis McMichael is the one pictured in the featured image next to Ahmaud Arbery. It was McMichael’s shotgun that was used in the shooting. The defendants claimed self-defense. From News4Jax.com:
Defense attorneys used their closing arguments Monday to argue that the McMichaels were attempting a legal citizen’s arrest when they set off after Arbery, seeking to detain and question him as a suspected burglar after he was seen running from a nearby home under construction.
Attorney Jason Sheffield said his client, Travis McMichael, fired his shotgun in self-defense after Arbery charged at him, threw punches, and tried to grab the weapon. Sheffield called Arbery’s death a tragedy, but one that was his own fault.
The verdicts are as follows:
Travis McMichael has been found guilty of nine charges total. These were all the charges filed again Travis.
Gregory McMichael:
Not guilty on count one for malice murder. Guilty for felony murder on count two. Guilty on count three for felony murder. Guilty for count four felony murder. Count five felony murder – guilty. Count six – guilty of aggravated assault. County seven aggravated assault – guilty. Count eight – fault imprisonment – guilty. count nine – criminal attempt to commit a felony- guilty. There was only one not guilty for Gregory.
William R. Bryan:
Count one – malice murder -not guilty. Count two – felony murder – not guilty. Count three – felony murder – guilty. Count four – felony murder – guilty. Count five – felony murder – guilty. Count six- aggravated assault – not guilty. Count seven – aggravated assault – guilty. Count eight- false imprisonment – guilty. Count nine – criminal attempt to commit a felony – guilty.
There were three not guiltys for Bryan but 6 guilty charges.
